Dunedin is located 361km south of Christchurch on the eastern coastline of the South Island. This sleepy city was born from the gold rush era in the 1860's and had a slow start in the begining, but once word had travelled of the unfound gold in the surrounding area Dunedin quickly became the largest and richest city in New Zealand. Today Dunedin has a population of approximately 125,000 but this figure varies according to the time of year as the student population is around 20,000. The city has matured through industry and educational excellence and is also well known foor it's Victorian and Edwardian architecture, there is something here for the entire family to experience and take away with them.
