Greymouth is located on the West coast of the South Island on the Tasman Sea and Grey River, it is only a 3.5 hour drive west of the beautiful city of Christchurch. Abel Tasman first saw New Zealand from off the West Coast in 1642, Captain James Cook followed in 1769 but neither of them landed at that time. It wasn't until an exploration by Thomas Brunner and Charles Heaphy in 1846 that the region was discovered for it's untapped resources and possibilities.

This pristine little town is the main centre of the Grey District and is seen as an ideal base to explore the beautiful region of the West Coast. It's no wider than 70 km at any point, the mountains look closer, the lakes a beautiful blue and crystal clear, the rivers bigger and faster and the forests more lush than anywhere else in New Zealand.
