For Car Hire in Picton and the surrounding area, we can help you here at Find Me a Rental Car.

Picton is located at the north of the South Island and is the port for the Interislander and other ferrying vessels. Picton is a 3 hour trip on the InterIslander from Wellington and is the gate way into the South Island. Ship Cove was visited several times by Captain Cook as he charted the North and South Islands of New Zealand, it is near the head of Queen Charlotte Sound. The town is named after Sir Thomas Picton, the military associate of the Duke of Wellington, who was killed at the Battle of Waterloo.

Today Picton is a picture perfect port town with friendly and helpful locals and after spending a few days exploring the area you will see why this region was a favourity for Captain Cook. Take a cruise to explore historical sites such as Ship Cove, visited several times by explorer Captain James Cook as he charted New Zealand, and Motuara Island, where he first claimed British sovereignty in January 1770. It's now a bird sanctuary where rare South Island robins come to your hand. En route, you'll see dolphins, penguins, shags and seals - the wildlife love it here too.
